The History of Baklava

There are many traditional food in the Middle East that have been passed down through the centuries; one of the most popular and recognizable foods is actually a dessert called “Baklava”. This delicious food has had its origins claimed in several Middle Eastern countries, but most people recognize the modern form of baklava as having evolved from the Ottoman Empire in Turkey. The food itself often comes baked in a variety of different forms based on the region that makes it. In the country of Iran, their forms of these pastries are baked drier and are flavored with a type of rose water; they use a combination of chopped pistachios and almonds mixed with cardamom, forming a lighter version of these sweets.
Different countries in the region might add or subtract several ingredients, but the core function of the dessert remains intact. The baklava is created by compressing thin pieces of phyllo dough and stacking fifteen or more layers on top of each other within the filling. Some even stack fifty to sixty together to create a thick dessert with a rich and meaty texture. Whether you have eaten different types of baklava all of your life or you are looking to try it for the first time, these pastries are a delicious dessert and will undoubtedly appeal to palettes from all over the globe.
